Giphy for Slack

The Giphy app lets you search a library of animated GIFs and send them in Slack. Once Giphy is installed to your workspace, any member can post GIFs in conversations from the shortcuts menu. Read on to learn how to send GIFs in Slack.


Add the Giphy app to Slack

  1. Visit the Giphy app page in the Slack App Directory.
  2. Click Add to Slack.
  3. Click Add Giphy Integration.


Send GIFs in Slack

Note: Common words and phrases can return unexpected results. Use with care!

  1. From a conversation, click the  slash icon next to the message field.
  2. Search for Find and share a GIF, then press Enter to select it.
  3. Type a word or phrase in the text field, then click Search.
  4. Click Shuffle to view more options, then select Share to post your GIF.

Tip: Giphy shortcuts won't show up in the attachments and shortcuts menu from threads. To share GIFs in a thread, type the /giphy slash command in the message field, then add your search term and send your message to choose a GIF.


Manage Giphy settings

If you'd like, you can set a maximum GIF rating. Setting a GIF rating for the Giphy app determines the G-R rating of GIFs all members of your workspace will be able to view and send in Slack. 

  1. Visit the Giphy page in the Slack App Directory. 
  2. Open the dropdown menu to select a GIF rating option. 
  3. Click Save Integration.
