Asana for Slack

Asana is the easiest way for teams to coordinate and manage their work. With the Asana app for Slack, you can turn your conversations into action and create new tasks in Asana — all without leaving Slack.

 

Install the app

  1. Head to the Asana app page in the Slack App Directory.
  2. Click Add to Slack.
  3. Click Continue.
  4. Choose channels Asana can post to. To select direct messages, click the Search for channels field and scroll down to that section.
  5. Click Install.

Note: If your workspace has the approved apps feature turned on, only Workspace Owners, Admins, and approved members will have permission to add apps to Slack.

 

Use Asana in Slack

Once the app is installed, you and other members of your workspace need to sign in to Asana to get started.

Sign in to Asana

  1. From your desktop, select Asana from the Apps section of the left sidebar.
  2. Type /asana into the message field and press Enter or select Send.
  3. Click Connect Asana to Slack and follow the prompts.
  4. Click Allow to grant the app access to your Asana account.
  5. Select Open Slack.

Use Asana

With the Asana app, you can:

  • Create new tasks
    Type /asana create into the message field
  • Turn Slack messages into tasks
    Create tasks from Slack messages, or add messages to existing tasks using Actions
  • Take action on tasks
    See task details, complete tasks, change assignees and due dates, or add tasks to projects
  • Get notifications
    Receive notifications for tasks assigned to you and those you're following
  • Link Asana projects to channels
    Set up Asana projects to post notifications in channels when the project is updated
