Dropbox for Slack

If you use Dropbox, add the Dropbox app for Slack to share files in Slack and keep your team's collective information in one convenient place.

Once you install the app, you'll be able to share Dropbox files easily in Slack channels and direct messages, view Dropbox file previews in Slack and add file comments in Slack that anyone in Dropbox can see. 

 

Connect Dropbox and Slack

To connect Dropbox and Slack, you'll need to install the Dropbox app to your Slack workspace. Once that's done, you can connect your Slack and Dropbox accounts. 

  1. Head over to the Dropbox app page in the Slack App Directory and click Add to Slack
  2. Click Connect to Slack, then select Got it
  3. Select Allow to grant Slack access to Dropbox. If you're not already logged in to Dropbox, you'll be prompted to sign in to connect your account. 

Tip: if the Dropbox app has already been installed to your workspace, click Open in Slack to connect your account and get started.

 

Share Dropbox files in Slack

Once you've connected Slack and Dropbox, you can add Dropbox files directly from Slack or share them from Dropbox.

  1. From a channel or direct message, click the   paper clip icon to the left of the message input field. 
  2. Below Add a file from, select Dropbox

  3. Select the file you want to share and click the Choose button. 
  4. Add a message if you'd like, then click Upload
  1. In Dropbox, click Files in the left sidebar and locate the file you'd like to share.
  2. Click the arrow icon next to the Share button. From the drop-down menu, select Share in Slack
  3. Choose where to share your file. 
  4. Click Send to share it in Slack. 

Tip: you can manage your connection between Slack and Dropbox from the Connected apps page on the Dropbox website.

Note: currently, the Dropbox app can only be installed to one workspace in an Enterprise Grid organisation.
