The Giphy app lets you search a library of animated GIFs and send them in Slack. Once Giphy is installed to your workspace, any member can post GIFs in conversations from the attachments and shortcuts menu. Read on to learn how to send GIFs in Slack.
Add the Giphy app to Slack
Visit the Giphy app page in the Slack App Directory.
Click Add to Slack.
Click on Add Giphy Integration.
Send GIFs in Slack
Note: Common words and phrases can return unexpected results. Use with care!
From a conversation, click on the plus icon next to the message field.
Search for and select Find and share a GIF from the menu.
Type a word or phrase in the text field, then click Search.
Click Shuffle to view more options, then select Share to post your GIF.
Tip: Giphy shortcuts won’t show up in the attachments and shortcuts menu from threads. To share GIFs in a thread, type the /giphyslash command in the message field, then add your search term and send your message to choose a GIF.
Manage Giphy settings
If you like, you can set a maximum GIF rating. Setting a GIF rating for the Giphy app determines the G-R rating of GIFs all members of your workspace will be able to view and send in Slack.
