Manage settings and permissions for Slack Connect channels

Slack Connect lets you work with people from other companies in channels. Owners and admins can adjust the following settings and permissions for these channels in their workspace or Enterprise Grid organisation:


Enable or disable Slack Connect channels

By default, members can work with people from other companies in channels, but owners and admins can disable this option. Keep in mind that adjusting this permission won’t impact any existing channels with other companies.

Workspace owners and workspace admins can enable or disable Slack Connect channels for their workspace:

  1. From your desktop, click on your workspace name in the top left.
  2. Select Settings & administration from the menu, then click Workspace settings.
  3. Click the Permissions tab.
  4. Next to Slack Connect channels, click Expand.
  5. Tick or untick the box next to Enable channel invitations.
  6. Click on Save.

Manage Slack Connect channels 

Org owners and org admins can enable or disable Slack Connect channels for their organisation:

  1. From your desktop, click on your workspace name in the top left.
  2. Select Settings & administration from the menu, then click Organisation settings.
  3.  Click  Slack Connect in the left sidebar, then select Settings.
  4. Next to Channels, click Edit.
  5. Tick or untick the box next to Enable channel invitations.
  6. Click Save setting.


Choose which workspaces members can use channels from

When Slack Connect channels are enabled, members can work in these channels from any workspace in their Enterprise Grid org by default. If they like, org owners and org admins can choose which workspaces members can do this from:

  1. From your desktop, click on your workspace name in the top left.
  2. Select Settings & administration from the menu, then click Organisation settings.
  3. Click  Slack Connect in the left sidebar, then select Settings.
  4. Next to Enable for channels in which workspaces?, click Edit.
  5. Select which workspaces members can use Slack Connect channels from.
  6. Click on Save.

Enterprise Grid subscription

By default, members can send and accept invitations to work with people from other companies in channels. Workspace owners and workspace admins can change who has this permission:

  1. From your desktop, click on your workspace name in the top left.
  2. Select Settings & administration from the menu, then click Workspace settings.
  3. Click the Permissions tab.
  4. Next to Slack Connect channels, click Expand.
  5. Below Who can send and accept channel invitations, select an option.
  6. Click on Save.

  1. From your desktop, click on your workspace name in the top left.
  2. Select Settings & administration from the menu, then click Organisation settings.
  3. Click  Slack Connect in the left sidebar, then select Settings.

  6. Click Save setting.

  1. From your desktop, click on your workspace name in the top left.
  2. Select Settings & administration from the menu, then click Workspace settings.
  3. Click the Permissions tab.
  4. Next to Slack Connect channels, click Expand.
  5. Below Who can approve and manage these channels, select an option.
  6. Click on Save.

By default, only org owners and org admins can approve and manage Slack Connect channels. If they like, they can give other people in their organisation this permission too:

Manage when requests need approval

Depending on workspace settings, each company may need to approve a request to work together in a channel. Owners and admins can choose when Slack Connect requests need to be approved for their workspace or Enterprise Grid org.

Workspace owners and workspace admins can choose when requests to work with people from other companies in channels need approval:

  1. From your desktop, click on your workspace name in the top left.
  2. Select Settings & administration from the menu, then click Workspace settings.
  3. Click the Permissions tab.
  4. Next to Slack Connect channels, click Expand.
  5. Below When is approval required for channel invitations, select an option.
  6. Click Save.

Org owners and org admins can choose when requests to work with people from other companies in channels need approval:

  1. From your desktop, click on your workspace name in the top left.
  2. Select Settings & administration, then click Organisation settings.
  3. Click  Slack Connect in the left sidebar, then select Settings.
  4. Next to Require approval, click Edit.
  5. Select an option and click Save.

Note: Those with permission (Pro and Business+) and org owners/admins (Enterprise Grid) can override the setting for when requests need approval and choose different approval settings for specific organisations.


Choose where requests for channels are sent

If requests for channels need to be approved, owners and admins can choose where these requests are sent. By default, requests are sent to anyone with permission to approve and manage channels via DMs from Slackbot, but they can be routed to a specific channel instead.

Workspace owners and workspace admins can choose where requests are sent for approval:

  1. From your desktop, click on your workspace name in the top left.
  2. Select Settings & administration from the menu, then click Workspace settings.
  3. Click the Permissions tab.
  4. Next to Slack Connect channels, click Expand.
  5. Below Where are requests sent for approval, select an option.
  6. Click Save.

Org owners and org admins can choose where requests are sent for approval. If requests are sent to a channel, it must be an org-wide channel.

  1. From your desktop, click on your workspace name in the top left.
  2. Select Settings & administration, then click Organisation settings.
  3. Click  Slack Connect in the left sidebar, then select Settings.
  4. Next to Channels, click Edit.
  5. Below Where are requests sent for approval, select an option.
  6. Click Save setting.

Tip: Requests will automatically update in the selected channel or your DM with Slackbot once someone has approved or denied them.
