Messages and spellcheck

Write messages in your language

Although the Slack app can only be displayed in a certain languages, you can still send and read messages in most other languages. In the message field, type your messages in your preferred language, and send.

Note: Slack does not support right-to-left languages, such as Arabic. We hope to include better support for these languages in the future.

Set spellcheck to a different language

Spellcheck in Slack is enabled by default, and it will automatically detect the language of the messages that you send. In the message field, misspelled words will appear underlined in red. You can set spellcheck to a different language, or turn it off entirely.

  1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.
  2. Choose Preferences.
  3. Select Language & region.
  4. Choose a new language from the drop-down menu.
  5. Make sure that spellcheck is enabled. If it's not, tick the box next to Enable spellcheck on your messages.
Note: If spellcheck is on but not detecting the language that you're typing in, click Help in the menu on desktop. Select Troubleshooting, then Clear cache and restart. Or, send us a note.
