Manage your language preferences

You can display the Slack app in a number of languages. If your preferred language isn't yet supported, you can still send and read messages in that language by adjusting your spellcheck settings.

Supported languages

  • English (U.S. or U.K.)
  • French (France)
  • German (Germany)
  • Japanese
  • Portuguese (Brazil)
  • Spanish (Latin America or Spain)

Change your language preference

Your selected language will display throughout the app, but you may see workspace-wide messages or those from bots and apps in your workspace’s default language, which can be set by a Workspace Owner or Admin. Here's how to set your individual language preference:

Messages and spellcheck

Write messages in your language

You can send messages in most languages by typing them in your preferred language in the message field.

Note: Slack does not support right-to-left languages, such as Arabic. We hope to include better support for these languages in the future.

Manage spellcheck in Slack

Spellcheck in Slack is enabled by default, and it will automatically detect the language of the messages you send. In the message field, misspelled words will appear underlined in red.
