Find your partners on Slack

Note: Soon you can discover which of your partners also uses Slack. Before this feature is available, you can set your Slack Connect discoverability preference, and workspace owners and admins can manage discoverability for their workspace.

If you have their email address, you can use Slack Connect to discover which of your partners are already using Slack and invite them to start a direct message conversation. Search for your partners by email or sync your Google contacts.

Note: Your partner must accept your invitation before you can send each other direct messages in Slack, and they’ll only have access to your conversation.


Search for a partner by email

  1. From your desktop, click Slack Connect in your sidebar.
  2. Enter a partner's email address into the search field and select Enter
  3. Click someone’s profile to see if they use Slack.
  4. To invite someone to start a direct message, select Start Conversation or Invite to Join Slack.


Sync your Google contacts

Connect your Google account to Slack

  1. From your desktop, click Slack Connect in your sidebar.
  2. Select Sync your Google Contacts.
  3. Follow the prompts to grant Slack access to your Google Account.


Browse your Google contacts and start conversations

  1. From your desktop, click Slack Connect in your sidebar.
  2. Below Connect with your Google Contacts, browse the list of people. Select See All Google Contacts to expand the list.
  3. Click someone’s profile to see if they use Slack.
  4. Click a contact and select Start Conversation or Invite to Join Slack.
