Manage shared channels on the Standard and Plus plans

On the Standard and Plus plans, by default, only Workspace Owners and Admins can manage shared channels for their workspace. They can also decide to give others permission to manage shared channels in order to perform these actions:

Set permissions for managing shared channels

Only Workspace Owners and Admins can decide to give other members permission to manage shared channels. To give someone these permissions, use the steps below:

  1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.
  2. Click Administration, then Workspace settings from the menu.
  3. Click the Permissions tab.
  4. Next to Shared Channel Requests, click Expand.
  5. Under Who can approve shared channel requests?, choose who can manage shared channels in your workspace.
  6. Click Save to finish.

 

Managing shared channels

Workspace Owners, Admins, and members with permission to manage shared channels have the ability to perform the actions below.

View all shared channels

To view all the shared channels in your workspace, as well as the external organizations they're shared with, use the steps below:

  1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.
  2. Select Administration from the menu.
  3. Click Manage shared channels.
  4. From the Organizations tab on the left, view a list of your workspace’s shared channels and the organizations you’re sharing channels with.

Note: To keep their content private, you can't see the names of private shared channels, but you'll be able see they exist when you view all shared channels in your workspace.


Manage shared channel requests

Workspace Owners, Admins, and those with permission to manage shared channels can approve or decline a shared channel request using the steps below:

  1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.
  2. Select Administration from the menu.
  3. Click Manage shared channels.
  4. Select the Pending requests tab on the left.
  5. Choose Approve or Decline next to the channel names.

Note: Approval requests are also sent to all Owners and Admins of both workspaces in a direct message (DM) with Slackbot.

Stop sharing channels

To disconnect shared channels, there are two options:
