When all of your teammates, tools and work are in one place, Slack can be even more useful. Add apps to your workspace to connect the tools and services that you use every day and get more work done without leaving Slack.
Find apps
There are two ways to browse for apps: directly in Slack or in the Slack App Directory.
Discover apps in Slack
You can see apps other members of your workspace are already using and search for new ones without leaving Slack. From your desktop, click Apps in the left sidebar.
How apps are sorted in your workspace
Your top apps Your frequently used apps.
Apps in [workspace name] Apps installed to your workspace.
Recommended apps Popular apps that you can add to Slack. You won't see this section if there are more than ten apps installed to your workspace.
Pre-approved apps for [workspace name] Apps that a workspace owner has pre-approved for any member to use. You won't see this section if app installation hasn't been restricted for your workspace.
Tip: Click Filter in the top right corner of the Apps page to view apps in your workspace by type or category.
Explore the Slack App Directory
The Slack App Directory lists every app that can be integrated with Slack. No matter what your role or industry, there’s an app that can help make your work simpler, more pleasant and more productive.
Install apps
If you're browsing apps from the Slack desktop app, click Add to install an app. From an app's page in the App Directory, click the Add to Slack button. Then, follow the prompts to install the app or connect your account. You'll see the option to connect your account after clicking Add to Slack if an app has already been installed to your workspace.
Note: All members of your workspace will be able to connect their accounts and use an app once it's installed.
Submit an app request
Workspace owners can choose to restrict members' ability to install apps and approve or restrict certain apps for a workspace. To view pre-approved apps, click Apps in the left sidebar and find Pre-approved apps for [your workspace]. To find pre-approved apps in the App Directory, click Pre-approved below Categories in the left column.
If you find an app that you want to use that hasn't been pre-approved, you can request approval:
Click Add to Slack.
Add a custom message with more context about your request. This may be optional or required by your workspace owners.
Click Submit. You'll receive a direct message from Slackbot when your request has been reviewed.
Tips for using apps
Apps can be built to do just about anything, so no two apps work in exactly the same way. These tips can help you make the most out of apps in your workspace:
Keep things focused. If an app posts a high volume of updates, consider creating a dedicated channel for the app. Anyone who wants to follow along can join that channel.
Get familiar with app shortcuts and commands. Many apps include shortcuts that you can use to take actions quickly from the shortcuts menu or individual messages in Slack. Others rely on slash commands to perform certain tasks right from Slack.
