Transparency is important to us, especially when it comes to how we communicate Slack’s service availability and uptime. That’s why we keep our Slack status site up to date and our issue history accessible to everyone.
Terms you should know
Before we dive in any further, let’s define a few terms.
outage refers to an issue that affects people connecting to Slack.
incident refers to a problem with a specific feature that’s not working properly (e.g. notifications not working or slow file uploads).
notice means there’s an issue with a third-party service or Slack partner that might affect your experience (e.g. a major internet service provider is having an outage).
Maintenance refers to scheduled downtime for Slack that customers are given advance notice of. This happens very rarely.
Tip: To learn how we calculate uptime, take a look at our service level agreements (SLA) .
Stay updated during an issue
For any issues that affect our customers, we update our Slack status site . This is where you’ll find the most up-to-date information until we resolve the issue.

After an issue
Once we’ve resolved an issue, we’ll publish a technical summary to the Slack status site within 24 hours. The technical summary includes specific details about the issue, such as an overview of what happened, how customers were impacted and how our internal systems were affected.
