Need to know
There are a few terms to know before getting started:
-
FedRAMP
The Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (or FedRAMP) is a US government programme that provides a standardised approach to security and risk assessment for cloud products and services. FedRAMP compliance is a mandatory requirement for US government agencies and is sometimes necessary for companies that work with them and handle government data in a cloud environment. -
Success Plans
Success Plans are customer support offerings that provide a full range of innovative tools, proactive guidance and personalised support to customers. While Success Plans are currently available to Salesforce customers, they are not yet available to Slack customers. -
Commercial support infrastructure
Commercial support infrastructure is used by Salesforce to host support data. While it isn’t within a FedRAMP authorised boundary, it continues to uphold Slack's highest trust requirements with comprehensive security controls designed to ensure the continued protection and integrity of your support data.
FAQ
Why is Slack asking about FedRAMP requirements now?
We are moving customer support data into commercial support infrastructure as part of our goal to enhance and standardise the Slack customer experience. These infrastructure systems are not within a FedRAMP authorised boundary. This paves the way for Success Plans for Slack, which will provide enhanced customer success resources, personalised guidance and expedited support experiences.
What is Slack support data?
Support data is information shared or generated to resolve a service request through tickets or chats that you submit through our Contact Us page. This includes any text, messages, files, images or screenshots shared between your team and Slack support.
Does this change affect my Slack workspace data?
No. This change is limited to your Slack support data (like support cases and communications) and does not include customer data from your workspace (such as Slack messages).
Who in my organisation can make this declaration?
Only a Slack primary owner can submit or change the FedRAMP declaration. If you're not sure who your primary owner is, visit the About this workspace page to find out.
What if my organisation manages more than one Slack workspace?
If your company manages multiple Slack workspaces or Enterprise organisations, the primary owner of each one will need to evaluate their FedRAMP needs and submit a separate FedRAMP request for every workspace or org that requires it.
What if we make a mistake in our declaration?
You have until 16th August 2026 to make changes to your company’s declaration. Visit the declaration page to adjust your selection.
Is FedRAMP compliance required for all Slack customers?
FedRAMP compliance is a mandatory requirement for US government agencies and is sometimes necessary for companies that work with them and handle government data in a cloud environment. We strongly advise that you consult with your legal or compliance teams to confirm the needs for your organisation.
What if we don’t need FedRAMP?
If you don’t require FedRAMP, no action is required. Your support data will be managed in our commercial support infrastructure that is not within a FedRAMP authorised boundary. This will enable Success Plans when they launch. You will be notified and given additional details before this change occurs.
What will change based on our FedRAMP declaration?
If you don’t require FedRAMP, your Slack support data will be managed in our commercial support infrastructure that is not within a FedRAMP authorised boundary. You will have access to Success Plans when they launch.
If you require FedRAMP, your support data will remain in a system that is within a FedRAMP authorised boundary. However, availability of future support innovations like Success Plans may be delayed while we ensure full compliance with FedRAMP requirements.
