Workflow usage in Slack Connect

By default, anyone in a Slack Connect channel can use workflows that have been shared in the channel. If they’d like, owners and admins can decide the following for workflows in Slack Connect channels:

  • Whether external people can use workflows created by members of their organisation
  • Whether their members can use workflows created by external people

Note: These permissions do not apply to legacy workflows.


Choose who can run workflows

Pro and Business+

Enterprise Grid

  1. From your desktop, click on your workspace name at the top left.
  2. Select Settings & administration from the menu, then click on Workspace settings.
  3. Click the Permissions tab.
  4. Next to Slack Connect Workflows, click Expand.
  5. Tick or untick the boxes, then click Save.

  3. Click Slack Connect in the left sidebar, then select Settings.
  4. Next to Workflows, click Edit.
  5. Tick or untick the boxes, then click Save setting.
Who can use this feature?
  • Org owners/admins (Enterprise Grid subscription) and workspace owners (Pro and Business+ subscriptions)
  • Available on paid subscriptions

When using Slack Connect, a workflow manager can set access permissions to allow external people to use workflows that they’ve created. However, owners and admins can override these access permissions and decide the following:

  • If external people can use workflows created by members of your organisation
  • If members of your organisation can use workflows created by external people

Note: These permissions do not apply to legacy workflows.


Choose who can run workflows

To decide who can use workflows in Slack Connect, follow the steps below.

Pro and Business+

Enterprise Grid

  1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the sidebar.
  2. Select Tools & settings from the menu, then click Workspace settings.
  3. Click the Permissions tab.
  4. Next to Workflow usage for Slack Connect, click Expand.
  5. Tick or untick the boxes, then click Save.

  2. Select Tools & settings from the menu, then click Organisation settings.
  3. Click Slack Connect in the left sidebar, then select Settings.
  4. Next to Workflows, click Edit.
  5. Tick or untick the boxes, then click Save setting.


Workflow step limitations

To protect your organisation, external people will never be able to use any workflow that contains the following: 

Additionally, external people won't be able to use any workflow that can take these actions in your workspace or organisation:

Members and guests in your workspace or Enterprise Grid organisation will be able to use workflows that contain these steps as long as they’ve been granted access
