Manage who can send workspace invitations

By default, all members (except guests) can invite people to join a Slack workspace. If you choose to remove members' permission to send invitations, they'll instead see the option to request invitations. 

When a member requests an invitation, all admins will be notified so you can review and approve or deny the request. 

  • Approving a request
    When you approve a request, Slack notifies the requestor and automatically sends an invitation.
  • Denying a request
    When you deny a request, Slack notifies the requestor and does not send an invitation.

Note: If members have permission to send invitations, they can invite other members — but only Workspace Owners and Admins can invite guests.


Set who can send invitations

  1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.
  2. Select Administration, then Workspace settings from the menu.
  3. Click the Permissions tab.
  4. Next to Invitations, click Expand.
  5. Check or uncheck the box next to Require admin approval.
  6. Click Save.


Manage invitation requests

If members don't have permission to send invitations themselves, their invitation requests will be sent to admins for approval. You can choose to send requests to all admins via Slackbot, or to a specific channel.

  1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.
  2. Select Administration, then Workspace settings from the menu.
  3. Click the Permissions tab.
  4. Below Invitations, make sure the box next to Require admin approval is checked. If it's not, follow the steps above to require members to request invitations.
  5. Choose whether requests will be sent to all Workspace Admins via Slackbot or routed to a channel.
  6. Click Save.
