Reset your password

If you forgot your password and can’t sign in to Slack, you can request a code to sign back in, then request a password reset email.

Note: You’ll need access to the email address associated with your Slack account to reset or add a password. If you’ve lost access to your email address, learn how an owner or admin can help.

Reset your password

Use these steps to request a code to sign back in to your Slack account. Then, follow the steps in Add a password to request a password reset email and choose a new password.

  1. Visit https://slack.com/signin.
  2. Enter your email address and click Sign in with email address.
  3. Check your email for a Slack confirmation code.
  4. Enter the code on the sign-in page, then select the workspace that you’d like to sign in to.

Add a password

  1. From your desktop, click on your profile picture in the top right.
  2. Select View profile from the menu. This will open your profile on the right side of your screen.
  3. Click  More, then select Account settings.
  4. Next to Password, click Expand. (You won’t see this option if your company requires single sign-on (SSO) to sign in.)
  5. Click Reset your password by email. Check your email for a link to add a password.

Tip: Your new password must be at least six characters long and can’t be things like password, 123456 or abcdef. For security reasons, you can’t reuse a previous password.

Troubleshooting

You didn't get a password reset email

Check your spam or junk folder. If emails from Slack aren’t getting delivered to your inbox, ask your company's IT team to allow emails from no-reply@slack.com and feedback@slack.com.

You have lost access to the email address on your account

For security purposes, you must be able to access the email address associated with your Slack account to reset your password. If that's not possible, ask an owner or admin to update the email address linked to your account. Please note that administrators can't reset or change passwords.

You don't have a password

If you didn't set a password when you signed up for Slack (e.g. if you sign in with Apple or Google), you can request a password reset to add one to your account.
