Set default do not disturb hours

When default Do Not Disturb (DND) hours are set for your workspace or Enterprise Grid organisation, Slack will not send any desktop or mobile notifications of activity to members. Setting default DND hours for your team will affect all members of your workspace or organisation.


Add default do not disturb hours

Here’s how workspace owners and admins can set default DND hours:

  1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.
  2. Select Administration, then Workspace settings from the menu.
  3. Scroll down to Do not disturb and click Expand.
  4. Select the default hours when notifications will not go out to members. This change will affect all members of your workspace.
  5. Click Save settings once you’ve finished!

Individual workspace level

Here’s how workspace owners and admins can set default DND hours:

  1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.
  2. Select Administration, then Workspace settings from the menu.
  3. Scroll down to Do not disturb and click Expand.
  4. Select the default hours when notifications will not go out to members. This change will affect all members of your workspace.
  5. Click Save settings once you’ve finished!

Enterprise Grid organisation level

Here’s how org owners and admins can set default DND hours for all workspaces connected to the Enterprise Grid organisation:

  1. From your desktop, sign in to your Slack Enterprise Grid, then click Manage organisation.
  2. Under    Settings, click Organisation policies.
  3. Next to Do not disturb mode, click Add policy.
  4. Tick the box next to Automatically disable notifications from and select the default hours when notifications will not go out to members of your org. This change will affect all members in your org.
  5. Click Save policy.

Note: members can set their own Do Not Disturb preferences. When you set default DND hours, it overrides their individual settings, but they'll still be able to change their hours or turn off the feature.

  2. Select Settings & administration from the menu, then click Workspace settings.
  3. Scroll down to Do not disturb and click Expand.
  4. Select the default hours when members will not receive notifications.
  5. Click Save.

Org level

Org owners and org admins can add an org policy to set default DND hours for all workspaces in an org:

  1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.
  2. Select Settings & administration from the menu, then click Workspace settings.
  3. Click  Settings in the left column. Then, click Organisation policies
  4. Next to Do not disturb mode, click Add policy
  5. Tick the box next to Automatically disable notifications from and select the default hours when members will not receive notifications.
  6. Click Save Policy
  7. Click Create Policy to confirm.

Workspace level

Here’s how workspace owners and admins can set default DND hours:

  1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.
  2. Select Settings & administration from the menu, then click Workspace settings.
  3. Scroll down to Do not disturb and click Expand.
  4. Select the default hours when notifications will not go out to members.
  5. Click Save

Note: When you set default Do not disturb hours, they will override members’ individual DND preferences. Members will still be able to change their own hours or disable DND.
