Manage message activity

Message activity allows you to see how many people have interacted with a given message in Slack. By default, message activity is enabled for your organization, but owners and admins can choose to disable the feature. 

Note: Message activity is not available for messages in private channels on the Business+ plan.


Enable or disable message activity

Enterprise Grid

Workspace Owners and Workspace Admins can enable or disable message activity for their workspace:

  1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the sidebar.
  2. Select Tools & settings from the menu, then click Workspace settings.
  3. Click the Permissions tab.
  4. Next to Message Activity, click Expand.
  5. Check or uncheck the box next to Enable message activity.
  6. Click Save.

Org Owners and Org Admins can enable or disable message activity for their organization. They can manage this for both internal channels and Slack Connect channels:

  1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the sidebar.
  2. Select Tools & settings from the menu, then click Organization settings.
  3. Click Settings in the left sidebar, then select Organization settings.
  4. Next to Message Activity for Public Channels, click Edit.
  5. Make a selection for internal channels or Slack Connect channels, then click Save Setting.

Note: By default, owners and admins can view message activity for their workspace or Enterprise Grid org but you can also assign the Message Activity Manager system role to give certain members permission to use the feature.

Who can use this feature?
  • Workspace Owners/Admins and Org Owners/Admins
  • Business+ and Enterprise Grid plans
