Manage app permissions in Slack

Who can use this feature?

Apps connect other software that you use (such as Google Calendar or Salesforce) to Slack. By default, any member can install an app to connect a third-party service to their Slack workspace.

If they like, workspace owners can manage a number of app installation settings and permissions, including the following:

  • Only allow apps from the Slack App Directory
Limit members to only installing apps from the Slack App Directory. All apps in the App Directory are reviewed by Slack.
  • Multi-channel guests may use app slash commands and shortcuts
Allow multi-channel guests to interact with apps using their shortcuts and slash commands.

Set permissions

  1. From your desktop, click on your workspace name in the top left.
  2. Select Settings & administration from the menu, then click on Manage apps to open the Slack App Directory.
  3. Click App management settings in the left column.
  4. Scroll down to the bottom of the page to the permissions that you'd like to manage, and toggle them on or off.
