Try a paid subscription for free
Are you using the free version of Slack but curious to see what our other subscriptions are all about? You might be interested in a free trial of the Pro or Business+ subscription.
Benefits of a paid subscription
When you start your free trial, you'll be able to try out all of Slack's paid features, including the following:
- Unlimited message history and file storage
- Slack Connect, allowing you to work with people outside your company in Slack
- Enhanced security features, like single sign-on and member provisioning
Request a trial
If you’re a workspace owner or admin, contact us from the email address that you used to sign up for your workspace to request a free trial. You won’t need to add a credit card to start your trial and you won’t be charged unless you choose to upgrade your workspace to a paid subscription.

How you're billed
Once your free trial ends, you’ll only pay for the members that are active in your workspace, based on our fair billing policy. If you have any available credits, we’ll apply those to your account before billing you for either a monthly or annual subscription.
Tip: View your workspace's billing history to see any available credits and their expiry dates.
Downgrade back to the Free subscription
If you've upgraded but change your mind before the free trial ends, you can return to the free version of Slack. Learn how to change your subscription.
If you downgrade after the end of the trial, our terms of service apply. You can cancel at any time, and no further payments will be taken, but we do not refund payments already made.
If your free trial ends but you choose not to upgrade, you'll move back to the free version of Slack and can continue using it for as long as you'd like. Here's what to expect:
|Messages, files and apps||
The message, file and app limits for the free version of Slack will be reapplied to your workspace.
Channels shared with people outside your company will immediately disconnect. Each organisation will retain a copy of the channel.
Guest accounts will be deactivated (but you can reactivate them as full members, if you wish).
|Channel email addresses||You can continue using existing channel email addresses, but you won’t be able to create any new ones.|
Any workflows created with Workflow Builder during the trial will remain active and count towards your workspace’s app limit. You won’t be able to create new workflows, but workspace owners/admins and members who created workflows can remove existing workflows.
Warning: If you adjust retention settings during your trial, any deleted messages or files will be permanently removed from your workspace.
How do I know when my trial will end?
From your desktop, click on your workspace name in the top left. Below your workspace name and URL in the menu, you’ll see your trial end date and the option to upgrade your workspace.
How did we end up on a trial if no one on our team requested it?
We'll occasionally provide trials to customers who we believe might benefit from using our paid features. These free trials are applied to a workspace automatically.
How can I cancel my trial?
Your trial will be automatically cancelled on the trial end date. If you’d like to return to the free version of Slack before that date, you can contact us.
Can I get a trial extension?
In some circumstances, we can grant extensions. Please contact us with details about why it would be helpful to have an extension and our team will review your request.
Can I defer my trial to a later date?
We’re unable to defer trials. However, if your trial ends and you’d like another chance to try our paid features, contact us and let us know which features you’d like to try.
