Create a Slack workspace

Slack is a channel-based messaging platform where people can work together more effectively, connect all their software tools and services and find the information that they need to do their best work. Read on to learn how to create your workspace and get started with Slack.

Things to keep in mind

  • When you create a workspace, you’ll become the workspace primary owner.
  • If you plan to use Slack for work, make sure that you use an email address from your company’s domain to create your workspace.


Create a workspace for your team

  1. Go to slack.com/create.
  2. Enter your email address, then click on Next. Check your email for a six-digit confirmation code.
  3. Enter your code, then name your workspace and click on Next
  4. Create a new channel for your workspace. Channels organise conversations about any topic, such as a project that your team is working on.
  5. Add co-workers' email addresses if you're ready to invite others. Otherwise, select Skip for now
  6. Click on See your channel in Slack to visit your workspace.
  7. Select Finish signing up at the top of the screen. Enter your name and password, then click on Next.
  8. Review your workspace name and URL, then click on Finish to save. Welcome to Slack!

  2. Tap Get started.
  3. Enter your email address, then tap Next.
  4. Tap Open email app, find your confirmation email, then tap Confirm email address to return to Slack.
  5. Tap Create a new workspace.
  6. Name your workspace and change the workspace URL if you want.
  7. Enter your full name (this is what other people will see along with your messages in Slack) and a secure password.
  8. Tap I agree to accept the Slack terms of service, then tap Done.

  5. Tap Create a new workspace.
  6. Name your workspace and change the workspace URL if you want.

  8. Tap I agree to accept the Slack terms of service, then tap Done.

Remember: your workspace name is visible to anyone that knows your team's Slack URL, even if they're unable to sign in.
