Manage apps on Enterprise Grid

Who can use this feature?
  • Org Owners and Org Admins
  • Available on the Enterprise Grid plan

Org Owners and Org Admins can manage apps for all workspaces in their Enterprise Grid organization from the Admin Dashboard:

  • Approve apps for members to install
  • Restrict apps so members cannot install them
  • View all installed, approved, and restricted apps across their Enterprise Grid org


Approve or restrict apps for your org

If there’s an app management policy in place for your org, apps will need to be approved before members can install them to their workspace. Org Owners and Org Admins can approve or restrict apps for every workspace in their org.

Note: If an app is approved at the org level, Workspace Owners can still restrict it for their workspace. If an app is restricted at the org level, Workspace Owners can’t approve it for their workspace.

Approve apps for your org

  1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.
  2. Select Settings & administration from the menu, then click Organization settings.
  3. Below  Organization in the left sidebar, click Apps
  4. Click Manage Apps in the top-right corner of the page and select Approve an app.
  5. Search for and select an app from the drop-down menu.
  6. Review the app’s requested permissions, then click Approve.


Restrict apps for your org

  1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.
  2. Select Settings & administration from the menu, then click Organization settings.
  3. Below  Organization in the left sidebar, click Apps
  4. Click Manage Apps in the top-right corner of the page and select Restrict an app
  5. Search for and select an app from the drop-down menu.
  6. Click Restrict.

Note: Restricting an app will not remove any existing installations of that app from workspaces in your org.


View your org's apps

Org Owners and Org Admins can see which apps are installed, approved, or restricted across workspaces in their org, along with details about what permissions the app requires.


View apps in your org

  1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.
  2. Select Settings & administration from the menu, then click Organization settings
  3. Below Organization in the left sidebar, click Apps
  4. Select the tabs at the top of the page to view Installed Apps, Approved Apps, or Restricted Apps.
  5. Click on an app's name to view more details. Select Permissions to view the app's scopes and click  App Details to view more information in the Slack App Directory.

Tip: To export a list of apps installed across your org, open the Export CSV dropdown menu from the Installed Apps tab, then click Generate CSV.


View apps by workspace
 

  1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.
  2. Select Settings & administration from the menu, then click Organization settings
  3. Select a workspace from the list. 
  4. Below the workspace name at the top of the page, click Apps
  5. Click on an app's name to view details, or click the Manage Apps   button in the top right to open the App Directory
