To change the colour of your workspace, choose a new theme or create your own custom theme.
Tip: If you’d like a darker look for Slack, learn how to turn on dark mode from your preferences.
Choose a new theme
If you use multiple workspaces, try selecting a different theme for each one to help you quickly tell them apart. Your new theme will appear whenever you open that workspace, including on the desktop app, browser and mobile app.
From your desktop, click on your profile picture in the top right.
Select Preferences.
Click Themes.
Below Colours, select a theme.
Note: When you have dark mode turned on, the existing options for sidebar themes will look different (and darker) than they do in light mode. Custom themes will look the same in light and dark mode.
Tip: In your Themes preferences, you'll find accessible themes that some people with colour-blindness have found helpful.
Customise your theme
From your desktop, click on your profile picture in the top right.
Select Preferences.
Click Themes.
Below Colours, click Create a custom theme. Enter any six-digit HTML colour value, or click a colour swatch to choose from the colour picker.
Share a custom Slack theme
Your custom theme will only be visible to you, but you can share it with other teammates by clicking the Copy button below Copy and paste these values to share your custom theme with others. Paste your theme into any channel or direct message, and members can click the Switch sidebar theme button from their desktop to start using it.
Tip: When you paste any six-digit colour value into Slack, we’ll display a small swatch for each colour. 🎨✨
