To multi-task and keep up with a few channels or Direct Messages (DMs) at once, open new windows in Slack on desktop. You can have as many windows as you like, and drag and drop them to organise your screen.
Open a new window
Conversations
You can open any channel or DM in a window.
From your desktop, press Cmd (Mac) or Ctrl (Windows/Linux).
Click the name of a channel or DM in your left-hand sidebar to open it in a window.
Mentions and reactions
Stay up to date with your Mentions & reactions by keeping the page open in a window alongside Slack.
From your desktop, press Cmd (Mac) or Ctrl (Windows/Linux).
Click Mentions & reactions at the top of your left-hand sidebar to open it in a window.
Threads
Open a thread in a new window to follow along with a conversation after you navigate to another channel or page.
From your desktop, open a thread.
Click the window icon to open it in a window.
Canvases
When you open a canvas from your sidebar or click on a link, it will automatically open in a new window. Here's how to open a channel or DM’s canvas in a window:
Open the canvas.
Click the three dots icon.
Select Open in new window.
