Manage email display

Who can use this feature?
  • Workspace Owners/Admins and Org Owners/Admins
  • Free, Standard, Plus and Enterprise Grid subscriptions

By default, members' email addresses display in their Slack profiles. Owners and admins of a workspace or Enterprise Grid organisation can change this setting to hide email addresses. When email addresses are displayed, you can search for teammates by their emails.

Workspace owners and admins can select an email display setting:

  1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.
  2. Select Settings & administration from the menu, then click Workspace settings.
  3. Scroll to Email display, then click Expand.
  4. Tick or untick the box next to Display email addresses.  
  5. Click Save.

Note: Adding an org policy for email display will change the settings on every workspace in the org. If an org policy is set, workspace owners and admins will not be able to adjust email display settings for their workspace(s).

Org level

Org owners and org admins can set an email display policy for all workspaces in an org:

  1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.
  2. Select Settings & administration from the menu, then click Organisation settings.
  3. Choose   Settings from the left column, then select Organisation policies.
  4. Next to Email Display, click Add Policy.
  5. From the drop-down menu, select Display email addresses or Hide email addresses.
  6. Click Save policy.
  7. Select Create policy to confirm.
To edit this policy, click the  pencil icon. To remove it, click the  trash can icon.

Workspace level

If an org policy has not been set, workspace owners and workspace admins can select an email display setting:

  1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.
  2. Select Settings & administration from the menu, then click Workspace settings.
  3. Scroll to Email display, then click Expand
  4. Tick or untick the box next to Display email addresses.  
  5. Click Save.

Note: If members don’t set a username, the prefix of their email address will be visible as their display name.
