Customize status suggestions for your workspace

Whether in a meeting, or taking a break from work, members can enter their own status in Slack, or choose from five suggested options. Workspace Owners and Admins can customize the suggested options that members can choose from.

Tips for creating status suggestions

  • Select an emoji that illustrates each status clearly.
  • Keep statuses short so members can add to them if needed.
  • Avoid acronyms, terms, and phrases that aren't familiar to everyone.
  • Choose reasonable time frames so statuses don't clear too soon.

Set default status suggestions

  1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.
  2. Select Settings & administration from the menu, then click Customize [workspace name].
  3. Click the Statuses tab.
  4. Select the default status suggestions.
  5. Click Save.

Tip: You can use custom emoji for default status suggestions. Learn how to create and add custom emoji to Slack.
