Customize status suggestions for your workspace

Whether in a meeting, working from home, or on vacation in Fiji, members can set a status in Slack to let their team know what they're up to. Workspace Owners and Admins can set the default status suggestions for members to choose from.

Tip: Status suggestions make it easier for members to quickly set their status. ✨

Set default status suggestions for members

All members have five default options to choose from when setting their status in Slack. If you're an Workspace Owner or Admin, here's how to customize these suggestions for your members:

  1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.
  2. Click Settings & administration, then Customize [workspace name] from the menu.
  3. Select Statuses.
  4. Customize the status options.

Members will be able to choose from your suggested options, or enter their own customized status.

Note: Any statuses that members currently have set won't be changed until they update or clear them.

Tips for creating status suggestions

  • 🎯Choose emojis wisely
For each default status you create, select an emoji that clearly illustrates it.
  • 💇Keep ‘em short
Keep default statuses short enough so that members add to them if needed.
  • 🤗Be inclusive
Avoid acronyms, terms, and phrases not familiar to everyone.
  • Find the right time
Choose a reasonable time frame for status suggestions so your members won't worry about them expiring too soon.
