To sign in to Slack, you need to know your workspace’s Slack URL. Workspace Owners and Admins can help members sign in to the desktop app more easily by downloading a default sign-in file and sharing it with their team.
What to expect
When members place this file in the Downloads folder on their computer, their workspace URL will automatically populate on the desktop app. Members still have the option to manually enter any workspace URL they’d like.
A default sign-in file will only populate the workspace URL if a member hasn’t signed in to any workspaces on the desktop app before. Otherwise, they’ll be prompted to enter their workspace URL to sign in.
Tip: If you're a part of an Enterprise Grid org, you can contact us to request a default sign-in file for your org. Please include your org's URL when you write in (e.g., acmeorg.enterprise.slack.com).
Step 1: Download a default sign-in file
From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.
Select Settings & administration from the menu, then click Workspace settings.
Click theAuthenticationtab.
Next to Automatically Open This Workspace for Members, click Download.
Step 2: Share a default sign-in file
Locate the Signin.slacktoken file in the Downloads folder on your computer.
Distribute the file for members, or share the file with them so they can move it to the Downloads folder on their computer if they’d like.
