Understand channel managers in Slack

When a channel is created, the creator is automatically assigned as the channel manager. Channel managers can take administrative actions on channels to which they're assigned and add up to 100 additional channel managers to the channel.

Channel manager permissions

Channel managers can take the following actions on channels to which they are assigned:

* Channel Managers can’t convert channels to private if they don’t have permission to create private channels.

Note: You must be a member of a channel to be a channel manager.

Assign channel managers

Owners and admins can designate channel managers for channels in their workspace. Channel managers can designate them for channels that they manage.

  1. From your desktop, open the channel that you'd like to assign a channel manager for.
  2. Click on the channel name in the conversation header.
  3. Select the About tab.
  4. Next to Managed by, click Edit
  5. To add channel managers, click Add channel managers and make a selection.
  6. To remove channel managers, click Remove next to their name.

Tip: Owners and admins with permission can assign channel managers using channel management tools.
