Accept an invitation to share a channel

Sharing a channel with external organizations lets you work together in a single channel that you can all access from your own workspaces. If another organization has invited you to share a channel, keep reading for details on accepting the invitation and how it gets approved.

What to expect

  • Someone from the organization that owns the channel will send you an invitation link. If multiple people from your organization receive an invitation to share the same channel, only one person needs to accept it.
  • Once an invitation is accepted, it must be approved by someone from the organization that owns the channel. If the member who accepted the invitation doesn't have permission to manage shared channels, it must also be approved by someone from your organization who does.
  • Invitation links expire after seven days. If your invitation expires before it’s accepted or approved, ask the channel owner to send you a new invitation link.
  • To decline a shared channel invitation, simply ignore the request.

Note: To accept an invitation, your organization must be using one of Slack’s paid plans. If you're using the free version of Slack, learn how to upgrade your workspace.
