Set the default language of a workspace or organization

Select the default language for members of your Slack workspaceEmail invitations, SCIM-synced profiles, and Slackbot announcements in public channels will display in the default language, but everything else in Slack will be determined by members’ individual language preferences.

Enterprise Grid plan

Workspace Owners and Admins can set the default language for their workspace using the steps below.

  1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the sidebar.
  2. Select Tools & settings, then Workspace settings from the menu.
  3. Next to Workspace Language, click Expand.
  4. Select a language from the menu.
  5. Click Save.

Org Owners and Org Admins can set the default language for workspaces in their Enterprise Grid organization using the steps below. The default language will apply to any new members or workspaces added to the organization, but it won't override members' changes to their individual language preferences.

  1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the sidebar.
  2. Select Tools & settings, then Organization Settings from the menu.
  3. From the left sidebar of the Admin Dashboard, select Settings.
  4. Click Organization Info.
  5. Next to Default language, click Edit.
  6. Choose a language from the menu.
  7. Click Save to finish.

Note: Workspace Owners and Admins can also override the default language, but members will still see most of Slack in their preferred language.
