Download Slack for Windows Using Slack on Windows has never been easier with the Slack desktop app. Take a look at the steps we’ve outlined below to get started.
Step 1: Download the Slack app
There are two ways to download Slack for Windows: from Slack’s download page or from the Windows Store.
Download from Slack
Windows Store
To install the Slack app, you need to be running Windows 7 or above. Here’s how to download the app to your desktop:
Visit slack.com/downloads .
Click Download .
Once the download is complete, double-click the file (called SlackSetup.exe ). Slack will launch automatically once installed.
With the app installed, you can double-click the Slack icon the next time you need to launch it.
To download the Slack app from the Windows Store, you need to be running Windows 10 with the Anniversary Update installed :
Find Slack in the Windows Store.
Click Get the app .
Once the app is installed, locate and select Slack in your Start menu to launch it.
Note: If you have the Slack app already installed on your desktop, we recommend uninstalling it before downloading another version.
Step 2: Sign into your workspace
Once you’ve installed the Slack app, you can sign in to a workspace you’re already a member of, join a workspace or create your own .
Configure additional options
The Slack app for Windows offers a set of customisable options to choose from.
Open Slack automatically
Allow Slack to automatically launch automatically when you turn on your computer. Here's how:
From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.
Choose Preferences from the menu.
Select the Advanced tab.
Under Other options , tick the box next to Launch app on login .
Tick the box next to Hide window when launched on login if you’d like Slack to start minimised in your notification area when you turn on your computer.
Note: the option to hide window when launched on login is only available for the version of the Slack app you can download from our website .
Run Slack in the background
Let Slack run minimised in the background in your notification tray. Here's how:
From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.
Choose Preferences from the menu.
Select the Advanced tab.
Under Additional options , tick the box next to Leave app running in notification area when the window is closed .
