Send emails to Slack

Sending emails to Slack ensures that all of the information you need is in one central location. There are three ways to do this:

  • Install the Microsoft Outlook or Gmail add-on
    Send emails one at a time from your inbox to any channel or direct message in a Slack workspace. Available on all plans.
  • Connect the Email app to your workspace
    Automatically forward emails from your provider to a specific Slack channel or direct message. Available on Standard and Plus plans.
  • Set up a forwarding address
    Forward emails to your direct message with Slackbot. Available on all plans.

Install an email add-on

To send emails to Slack directly from your inbox, we offer custom add-ons for Microsoft Outlook for Office 365 and Gmail. These add-ons help you move conversations forward by bringing context from an email into a channel or DM.

Anyone with access to Gmail or Outlook through your company can use them.

 

Connect the Email app to your workspace

If your workspace is on the Standard or Plus plan, you can install the email app to automatically route emails from your provider to a channel or direct message in Slack.

  1. Head to the Email app page in the Slack App Directory.
  2. Click Add to Slack
  3. Choose the channel or direct message you want emails sent to.
  4. Click Add Email Integration.

You'll receive a confirmation email from Slack with your unique email address. Add it to your address book for easy reference!

  1. Head to the Slack App Directory.
  2. Click Manage, then select Apps.
  3. Click Email, then click the   pencil icon to edit the configuration.
  4. Click Disable in the top right.
  5. Click OK. Emails will stop being delivered to Slack immediately.

 

Set up a forwarding email address

Anyone can set up a forwarding email address to receive emails in a direct message with Slackbot. This is a great way to store additional context in Slack alongside your other private notes and files.

  1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.
  2. Select Preferences from the menu.
  3. Click Messages & Media.
  4. Scroll down to Bring Emails into Slack and click Get a Forwarding Address. Then, click Copy.
  5. Add your Slack-generated address as a new forwarding address in your email application.
  6. Check your direct message with Slackbot to make sure you received a forwarding confirmation.

  3. Select Messages & Media.
  4. Scroll down to Bring Emails into Slack.
  5. Click Disable this address.

Note: Emails sent from mailing lists that do not specify a sender will not arrive in Slack.

Who can use this feature?
  • All members, and sometimes guests
  • All plans can install email add-ons or set up a forwarding email address. To use the Email app, you’ll need Standard or Plus.
