Edit tabs in a channel or DM
Every Slack channel and direct message (DM) has dedicated tabs for its messages, channel or DM canvas, files, workflows, pins, and bookmarks that you can edit in the following ways:
- Choose how tabs are ordered and displayed in a conversation
- Create new tabs for canvases and lists
- Organize bookmarks into folders
Choose how tabs are displayed
Drag and drop tabs to arrange them, and follow the steps below to choose which tabs you’d like to display to all members of the conversation:
- From your desktop, open a channel or DM.
- Click the plus button in the conversation header, then select Edit tabs.
- Click the show/hide icon next to the tabs you’d like to display, or the trash icon next to the tabs you’d like to delete, then click close.
Manage folders for bookmarks
You can organize useful links that are relevant to a conversation into bookmark folders. Each folder will appear as a tab in the conversation header.

- Click the plus button in the conversation header, then select Bookmark Folder.
- Enter a name for your folder and click Add.

Edit or delete a folder
- From your desktop, open a channel or DM.
- Right-click the bookmark folder and select Rename tab or Remove tab.
- Make your changes and click Save or Delete.
Note: Once you create a folder for bookmarks, anyone in the conversation will be able to edit the bookmarks, even if editing tabs is restricted to Channel Managers.

Manage who can edit tabs
Channel Managers can allow everyone to edit the tabs in a channel, or restrict editing to only Channel Managers.
- From your desktop, open a channel that you manage.
- Click the channel name in the conversation header, then click Tabs.
- Under Choose who can add, remove, and reorder tabs, select an option from the drop-down menu.
