💡Need to add someone to a channel rather than a workspace? Learn how in Add people to a channel.

Tip: Enterprise Grid Org Owners and Admins can invite members to workspaces in their org by following these steps.

Workspace invite permissions

Your ability to invite others to your workspace depends on both your role in Slack and your workspace settings.

  • Workspace Owners and Admins can invite both members and guests. Please note that guests can only be invited to workspaces on paid plans.
  • Members can invite other members if an Owner or Admin enables this option. Otherwise, they can request invitations for admins to approve.
  • Guests cannot send or request invitations.

Share an invite link

Workspace Owners and Admins can create a link that anyone can use to join their workspace. Invite links can be used by up to 2,000 people. You'll need to create a new link if you reach this limit.

  1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.
  2. Select Invite people from the menu, then click Members.
  3. Click  Get an invite link to share.
  4. Choose an expiration date from the dropdown menu.
  5. Click Create Invite Link.
  6. Click Copy, then share the link with anyone you want to join your workspace.

Tip: If you aren't able to create an invite link yourself, contact an Owner or Admin and ask them to share one with you.

Allow email signup

Workspace Owners can enable email signup. This allows people with an email address from a specific domain (e.g., your company's domain) to join your workspace without an invitation. Before someone can join a workspace this way, we'll send a validation link to their email address to verify their identity.

  1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.
  2. Select Administration, then Workspace settings.
  3. Next to Workspace Signup Mode, click Expand.
  4. Choose Any email address from these domains.
  5. Enter your domain(s), then click Save.

Manage pending invitations

Workspace Owners and Admins can view pending and accepted invitations and make either of the following changes:

  • Revoke Invitation
Revoke an invitation to prevent an invited member from using it or disable email notifications they may receive from Slack before accepting
  • Resend Invitation
Send a new email invitation if the original has expired or been lost
  1. From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.
  2. Select Invite people from the menu.
  3. Click See pending and accepted invites for your workspace.
  4. On the Pending Invitations tab, click the  right arrow icon next to the invite you want to view.
  5. Click Revoke InvitationResend Invitation, or click the  down arrow icon to exit.

Tip: Members with permission to send workspace invites are not able to resend pending invitations. Contact a Workspace Owner or Admin to resend them on your behalf.

Note: After you revoke a pending invitation, the invited member's account will show up as deactivated. To reinvite them, you'll need to activate their account from the Manage members page, then select Resend invitation.

Invitation limits

In certain circumstances, Slack may limit your ability to send invitations. This typically happens if you’ve sent many invites, but few have been accepted.

If you hit an invite limit, all of your pending invitations will remain valid. Please note that revoking pending invites will not lift an invitation limit.

To avoid hitting an invite limit, create a shared invite link (or ask your Workspace Owner or Admin to do so). Then, share it with anyone you want to join your workspace.
