To update a member's email address, follow the steps below. Keep in mind that you will only be able to make changes to a member's account if you have a higher permission role than them.
From your desktop, click your workspace name in the sidebar.
Select Tools & settings from the menu, then click Manage members.
Click the three dots icon to the right of the member whose email address you’d like to change.
Click Edit profile.
Edit the email address, then click Save.
Remember: If your workspace has single sign-on (SSO) enabled, you may need to check your preferences before you're able to change a members email address. Read on for more detail.
Note: If SSO is enabled for your workspace, you’ll need to send a new binding email after changing a member's email.
When single sign-on is enabled
If your workspace is using SSO, ensure your settings allow members to change their email address.
Note: Only Workspace Owners can allow members to change their email address in SSO settings.
From your desktop, click your workspace name in the sidebar.
Select Tools & settings from the menu, then click Workspace settings.
Click the Authentication tab.
Next to Authentication Settings, click Change Settings.
Authenticate with your SSO provider.
To the right of Settings, click Expand.
Turn on Allow users to change their email address.
Click Save Configuration.
Temporarily changing this preference will let you manually change an email address using the instructions above. For more, visit our guide to single sign-on with Slack.
Tip: Workspaces with SAML-based SSO can update a member's email address from within the identity provider. It will be updated the next time the member signs into Slack.
