Create a channel

Channels are the best way to keep conversations about various projects, topics, or teams organized in Slack. There’s no limit to how many channels you can have in Slack, so go ahead — create as many as you’d like!

Create a channel

  1. Click the   plus button in the sidebar.
  2. Select   Channel. If you’re on a paid plan, you can select Blank channel to set up a regular channel, or choose a template to automatically set your channel up for a specific purpose (like managing a project, handling approvals, and more). 
  3. Enter a channel name, then click Next.
  4. Choose whether your channel should be public or private, then click Create.
  1. Tap the  Home tab at the bottom of your screen.
  2. Below Channels, tap  Add channel.
  3. Choose Create Channel
  4. Enter a channel name, then tap Next.
  5. Choose a channel type (public or private), then tap Create

  4. Enter a channel name, then tap Next
  5. Choose a channel type (public or private), then tap Create

Note: By default, members can create channels and Multi-Channel Guests can create private channels (but Workspace Owners can change these permissions). If you can't create a channel, find a Workspace Owner to ask for help.
