Rename a channel

A channel's name gives people a better idea of what it's used for, but over time, things can change. At any point, you can rename an active channel.

The details

  • Workspace owners and admins can rename any public channel and private channels that they've joined. They can also rename the #general channel.
  • Channel names can have a maximum of 80 characters, must be lower case and can't contain spaces or full stops and certain words.
  • Members can only rename channels that they've created.
  • An archived channel must be unarchived before its name can be updated.

Note: In an Enterprise Grid org, only workspace owners/admins and org owners/admins can rename multi-workspace channels.
