Adjust channel management permissions
Workspace owners or Org owners can choose who's allowed to create channels, archive channels and remove members from channels they're a part of.
Note: On the Enterprise Grid subscription, Org owners can also choose who can rename channels.
Manage who can create channels or remove members

Enterprise Grid subscription
Workspace owners can manage who can create channels or remove members from channels they’re a part of. Here’s how:
- From your desktop, click on your workspace name at the top left.
- Select Settings & administration from the menu, then click on Workspace settings.
- Click the Permissions tab.
- Next to Channel management, click on Expand.
- From the menus, choose who can create channels and remove members from channels.
- Click on Save.
Org level
Org owners can manage who can create channels or remove members from channels they’re a part of. Here’s how:
- From your desktop, click on your workspace name at the top left.
- Select Settings & administration from the menu, then click Organisation settings.
- Choose Settings in the left column, then select Organisation policies.
- Click on Permissions.
- Next to Channel management restrictions, click Expand.
- Set who can create channels and remove other members from channels.
- Click Save policy, then Confirm policy.
Workspace level
If permitted by org settings, Workspace owners can choose who can create channels or remove members from channels they're a part of for their workspace:
- From your desktop, click on your workspace name at the top left.
- Select Settings & administration from the menu, then click Workspace settings.
- Click the Permissions tab.
- Next to Channel management, click on Expand.
- From the menus, choose who can create channels and remove members from channels.
- Click on Save.

Enterprise Grid subscription
Workspace owners can manage who can archive or unarchive channels. Here’s how:
- From your desktop, click on your workspace name at the top left.
- Select Settings & administration from the menu, then click on Workspace settings.
- Below Administration in the left sidebar, select Manage permissions. If you can’t see the left sidebar, click Menu in the top-left corner to find it.
- Click Account types.
- Click the three dots icon next to the permission you'd like to adjust, then select Edit permission.
- Choose who can archive or unarchive channels, then click Save.
Org level
Org owners can choose who can archive or unarchive channels in their organisation. Here’s how:
- From your desktop, click on your workspace name at the top left.
- Select Settings & administration from the menu, then click Organisation settings.
- Click People, then select Manage permissions.
- Click Account Types.
- Click the three dots icon next to the permission you'd like to adjust, then select Edit permission.
- Choose who can archive or unarchive channels. If you like, select whether individual workspaces can edit this setting.
- When you’re ready, click Save.
Workspace level
If permitted by org settings, Workspace owners can choose who can archive or unarchive channels in their individual workspace. Here’s how:
- From your desktop, click on your workspace name at the top left.
- Select Settings & administration from the menu, then click Workspace settings.
- Below Administration in the left sidebar, select Manage permissions. If you can’t see the left sidebar, click Menu in the top-left corner to find it.
- Click Account types.
- Click the three dots icon next to the permission you'd like to adjust and select Edit permission.
- Choose who can archive or unarchive channels, then click Save.
Tip: The workspace primary owner (Business+ subscription) and org primary owner (Enterprise Grid subscription) can give owners and admins permission to use channel management tools, allowing them to create channels, archive channels and more from a central dashboard.
