Archive a channel Archiving a channel removes it from the list of active conversations in your Slack workspace. The channel won't be open for new activity, but the history will be retained for easy browsing and searching. Keep in mind that Workspace Owners can restrict members from archiving channels, so if you don't see this option, contact an owner for help .
Tip: Looking to delete a channel? Visit Delete a channel .
What to expect
The archive icon will appear next to the channel name in the sidebar.
Members will receive a direct message from Slackbot to let them know the channel was archived.
Messages from the archived channel will appear in search results, allowing m embers to browse the conversation history in Slack.
Members will be removed from that channel (public channels only).
Apps connected to the channel will be disabled.
To archive a shared channel, you'll need to stop sharing it .
Tip: On the Plus and Enterprise Grid plans, owners and admins with permission can archive channels with channel management tools .
