Slack AI lets you summarize long conversations and find answers to questions using generative AI tools built right into Slack. It uses the conversation data already in Slack to create a secure AI experience tailored to you and your organization.

Summarize conversations in channels and DMs

Save time getting up to speed when you join a new channel or get added to group direct message (DM) by summarizing the conversation. You can summarize just your unread messages, the last seven days, or a custom date range (desktop only).

  1. Open the channel or DM you'd like to summarize.
  2. Click the   Summarize icon.
  3. Choose an option to generate your summary.

  4. When your summary is ready, you’ll see a badge on the   Summarize icon. Tap it to view your summary.


Summarize threads 

Catch up on long threads so you can start contributing to the conversation quickly.

  1. Open the thread you'd like to summarize.
  2. Click the   Summarize icon.

Your summary will appear when it’s finished. If you like, click the   More details icon for a deeper dive into the summary sources.

Note: Summaries can take longer to generate for larger time frames or message histories. If you’d like, take a break or move on to other work and we’ll notify you when your summary is ready.


Find answers to questions

Ask a question in your own words and get a concise answer based on relevant knowledge already in Slack.

  1. Click the search field at the top of Slack.
  2. Type your question into the search field and press Enter.
  3. A Slack AI answer will appear at the top of your search results.

Search answers will have citations that refer to the source messages that informed them. Hover over a citation to preview the source message or click on it to view the message in Slack.

  3. A Slack AI answer will appear at the top of your search results.

Search answers will have citations that refer to the source messages that informed them. Tap a citation to view the the source message in Slack.

FAQs

How does Slack AI work?

Slack AI uses third-party large language models (LLMs) hosted within Slack’s secure infrastructure to power conversation summaries and search answers.

Where does Slack AI get its data?

Slack AI uses only the workspace message data you have access to to inform your personal Slack AI experience. No data is mixed between Slack organizations or from any other outside sources.

Is my Slack data used to train third-party AI models?

No customer data is used to train third-party LLM models. Your Slack data is only used to power Slack AI search answers and summaries.

Will Slack AI show me private data I don’t have access to?

Slack AI summaries and search answers are based on Slack data that you have access to at the time of request and won’t display or use data from private channels or DMs you aren’t a member of. 

Can other people see what I've searched with Slack AI?

No, other people can't see what you've searched with Slack AI. Slack AI summaries and search results are unique and private to the person requesting them.

How does Slack AI prevent misleading information (or AI “hallucinations”)?

Slack AI will include citations to the source message that informed the summary or search answer. Select a citation to jump to the message and review it for accuracy.

What plans and languages is Slack AI available in?

Slack AI is currently available as a paid add-on for the Enterprise Grid plan, with support for English only. Support for additional plans and languages is coming soon.

Can I use Slack AI on my mobile device?

Yes. Slack AI is supported on both our iOS and Android apps.

Does Slack AI search canvases and files?

At this time, Slack AI search is limited to the messages in your Enterprise Grid org. Expanding support to canvases and other files is something we're considering. Stay tuned!

Can I use Slack AI if my organization uses EKM or data residency?

Yes! Organizations using EKM and data residency can use Slack AI.

Can I limit Slack AI to specific workspaces in my Enterprise Org?

At this time, Slack AI will use data from your entire org to inform its results. It is not currently possible to limit results to data from specific workspaces.
